Welcome to the Department of Oncology

The Department of Oncology’s commitment to excellence in clinical care, innovative research, and comprehensive training is at the heart of everything we do. With a distinguished history and over one hundred expert faculty members, we proudly collaborate with the Cross Cancer Institute, Katz Group Centre, and the Medical Isotope and Cyclotron Facility. Our mission is not only to provide excellent patient care but also to be at the forefront of advancements in medical oncology. By researching the molecular intricacies of cancer and harnessing these insights in our groundbreaking clinical trials, we strive to transform personalized cancer care. We are committed to developing effective and innovative cancer treatments, to profoundly impact the lives of our patients.

Programs

Undergraduate program

The Department of Oncology offers undergraduate courses in Experimental Oncology, Medical Physics, and Medical Oncology, as well as an undergraduate program in Radiation Therapy.

Graduate program

The Department of Oncology trains students to conduct basic and translational research on cancer causation, detection, imaging, diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The Department offers thesis based Master's and Doctoral degrees in Oncology and is organized under two specializations: Cancer sciences and Medical Physics.

Residency Training

The department offers seven residency programs, emphasizing high-quality cancer care, research and education, ensuring residents become competent and confident clinicians with a strong foundation in evidence-based medicine. We have introduced a new two-year Adult Palliative Medicine Residency program, accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Postgraduate/Fellowship Opportunities

The department of Oncology provides postgraduate training opportunities for clinical fellows and postdoctoral research fellows across a diverse array of specialties.
