to the Department of Oncology, University of Alberta, Edmonton,
Canada
The
Department of Oncology is a research-oriented clinical and
basic-science department that provides a focus for cancer-related
teaching and research within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
The Department is based at the Cross Cancer Institute (CCI),
a tertiary cancer facility operated by the Alberta Cancer
Board (ACB) that provides cancer services for northern Alberta
.
The
Department has seven academic divisions: Experimental Oncology,
Medical Oncology, Medical Physics, Oncologic Imaging, Palliative
Care Medicine, Radiation Oncology, and Surgical Oncology.
There are 94 full-time members of the Department and 44 adjunct
members.
Six
of the Divisions are comprised of faculty members who are
clinicians or service professionals in applied disciplines
and one, the Division of Experimental Oncology, is comprised
of basic scientists engaged in discovery and translational
cancer research.
The Department offers postgraduate residency
training in medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative
care medicine, and medical physics, graduate and postdoctoral
training in experimental oncology and in collaboration with
the Department of Physics in medical physics. An internship
in clinical psychology is offered by members of Palliative
Care Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Educational
Psychology. A technical training program in radiation therapy
is offered by members of Radiation Oncology, Medical Physics
and Experimental Oncology.
